Adult Mixed Doubles 18 & Over Championship-Location Change

OXFORD, MS—will be the 2016 host city for ALL age divisions for the Mississippi Mixed Doubles state championships. Oxford was already the host for the 40 & Over and 55 & Over championships. Now the 18 & Over divisions will also be played in Oxford. This massive combined event will bring over 800 players to the city of Oxford, August 26-28, 2016. This is the first time in well over a decade that the Mixed Doubles Championships have been combined into one event.

This change comes as a positive and creative solution to the unfortunate loss of Singing River Yacht Club’s bid on the 18 & Over Mixed Doubles Championship. Several unforeseen circumstances recently forced Singing River to relinquish its bid on the event. With a limited amount of time to select a new home for the event, the most appealing and player-friendly solution was to combine it with the 40/55 event which was already scheduled for the same weekend. This change will afford players the opportunity to compete in multiple age divisions if they choose to do so as now all competition will be in one location.

Players, get ready for a great weekend in Oxford! All 18 & Over and 40 & Over competition will use hard courts at FNC Tennis Center—John Leslie Courts, Avent Park, and The Country Club of Oxford. All 55 & Over competition will use soft courts at Goose Creek Club. Each participant will receive a commemorative tournament shirt and a complimentary lunch on Saturday. The Mississippi Tennis Association would like to recognize and thank the Oxford Community Tennis Association, Oxford Parks and Recreation, Goose Creek Club, and the Country Club of Oxford for making this solution a reality for the players. Support from tennis communities like Oxford helps to achieve the Mississippi Tennis Association’s goal to promote and develop the growth of tennis in Mississippi.
