July Adult League & JTT Captains of the Month

It's time to celebrate our July Captains of the Month! This month’s JTT Captain of the Month is Jeanne Howard, captaining out of the Central area. Jeanne has helped captain teams for two summers with 10U and 12U teams and got into captaining when the tennis coaches asked me to help because "I am always there with my grandkids."

"I live in Hesterville, but I have a West, MS address.  I have two children, Chelsea Davis and Justin Howard. I have 7 grand children Lexi Ingold, McKenzie Ingold, Aubree Ingold, Easton Ingold, Asher Howard, Ace Howard, and Axel Howard. The four older grandkids all play tennis. I have been married to Mike Howard for 35 years. I teach 4th-6th Reading at Winona Christian School in Winona, MS.I attend Sand Hill Baptist Church."

This month’s Adult League Captain of the Month is  Amy Knight, captaining out of the Coast. Amy's tennis enthusiasm started by taking a beginners tennis course at MGCCC in Gautier.

"I had interest in learning tennis, something new to keep me active as I was then 41 yrs old. The heat got me, but I was loving it from the start. After the session was over I begged my sister to come hit with me, she finally did. Soon enough we both got involved with USTA about a year later, with Saturday morning tennis lessons with a guy who agreed to teach 10 lady's tennis, God bless his soul Kenny Holloway. About 3 years into playing USTA we finally won state and went to Regionals. Fast forward to today, about 6 years of captaining ladies, and Toby Fasth convinced me to start captaining men's teams too for the last 5 years. Proud to have 1 men's team go to sectionals, and have had both men and women's teams go to the State Championships numerous times."

Amy's tennis home for the last 5 yrs has been at BBTC in Gulfport.

"At any given time being captain of up to 5 teams and managing 35 teams, and making sure teams have courts booked, you can imagine tennis is a big aspect in my life. None of this could be possible without our very own "Johnny on the spot" Johnny Wilkinson, our fearless tennis coordinator for MS Gulf Coast USTA. My favorite tennis saying is "My drinking team has a tennis problem". So happy I have had a wonderful tennis journey, ready for more years to come."
