March Adult League & JTT Captains of the Month
Each month, we will be highlighting Adult League & Junior Team Tennis Captains from each area around the state who've done an exemplary job captaining. This month’s Adult League Captain of the Month is Chloe Darden who’s in the Delta. She lives in Blanton with her husband, Charlie, their daughter, Frances, and their two dogs. They farm and own and operate a pharmacy in Rolling Fork. After a 20 year absence from tennis, Chloe’s husband got her back into the sport and she says, “I don’t know what I’d do without my tennis friends.”
“The best memory of being a captain would be making it to sectionals for combo last fall!!! I have a great group of ladies that are so much fun to travel with!”
This month’s JTT Captain of the Month is Justin Rhodes for the Jackson area. Justin is originally from Pelahatchie. He currently lives in Pearl with his wife, Beth, and their son, Maddox, who’s currently playing on a team and a younger daughter, Nora, who is super excited to start playing on a team! Rhodes became a JTT captain when his son and some of his friends wanted to form a team and with the help of Castlewoods Country Club (Mark and Gayla Elliott and Blake), they formed their team and has been captaining for 3 years. Justin usually captains one team per season and two teams if the girls and boys play separately. He also plays tennis and currently plays on two USTA teams in the Jackson area.
“I grew up playing tennis because of my mom, dad, and sister. They all played and would take me with them to play at Pelahatchie Lake whenever we could. Those are some of the greatest memories of my childhood. From there, I was able to play for my school, then I met Coach McKnight at Hinds CC and played with him for 2 years. I quit playing for a long period of time, but started again because of one of my very best friends, Mr. Tom Patterson. I am learning he’s a legend in these parts. I have met some of the greatest people in tennis. I love playing tennis with my wife and friends. I get to play with and against some of the greatest people in the world.”
