October Captains of the Month

Captains of the Month: Bryton Hixson & Michelle Tabor

This month, we’re excited to recognize two incredible individuals who continue to make a difference in their tennis communities.

Adult League Captain of the Month: Bryton Hixson

Bryton Hixson brings a deep passion for tennis to the Vicksburg community. Working as an Environmental Specialist for the US Army Corps of Engineers in Vicksburg, Bryton fills his spare time with woodworking, quarter-mile racing, and spending time with friends and family. His journey as a tennis captain started a few years ago, driven by his love for the game and a desire to help grow the sport locally. "With one of my loves being the game of tennis, I wanted to help fill those gaps and be a part of helping out when needed in whatever capacity I could," he says.

Bryton’s favorite moments as a captain come from watching his friends compete in good, clean matches. His leadership and commitment to the game have made a lasting impact on Vicksburg’s tennis scene, and we’re thrilled to honor him as our Adult League Captain of the Month.

Junior Team Tennis Captain of the Month: Michelle Tabor

Congratulations to Michelle Tabor, our Junior Team Tennis (JTT) Captain of the Month for October! For the past three years, Michelle has managed two teams each season, showing her dedication and passion for youth tennis. Her journey began when her two sons developed an interest in the sport, prompting her to form a team at the River Hills Club.

Originally from Batesville, MS, Michelle has called Ridgeland home for six years. Balancing family life with tennis, Michelle shares her love for the game with her husband, Will, a professor at Mississippi College, and their two sons, ages 10 and 12. As an avid tennis player herself, Michelle competes in the JLTA league and plans to join USTA as her sons grow older.

Beyond her local involvement, Michelle draws inspiration from the world of professional tennis, admiring Coco Gauff and the Williams sisters for their tenacity and impact on the game. For her, tennis is not only a great form of exercise but also a way to build lasting friendships and family memories.
