Robert Hansen of Hattiesburg Wins Adaptive Tournament

USTA Southern held it's first ever Adaptive Tournament on November 16-17 in Chattanooga, TN.  40 players from seven different states competed in the event, which took place on the indoor courts of the McCallie School.

The event featured four levels of play, all using different formats, balls, and court sizes to adapt to each participant level.

Tennis 4 Fun, an Adaptive outreach program based out of Hattiesburg, MS, took players to the event.  Lori Duke heads up the Hattiesburg Tennis 4 Fun location, and was on hand to guide her players.

Robert Hansen (pictured), a participant in the Tennis 4 Fun program in Hattiesburg, represented Mississippi well as he came away with the championship in the Green Level 4 division.  Karen Chesney, a participant at the Baddour Center in Senatobia MS, also competed in the event and represented Mississippi.

USTA Southern Adaptive Committee Chair Jim Hamm was on hand, and stated, “The inaugural USTA Southern Adaptive Tournament brought together athletes from seven states to compete in a variety of levels. The event raised awareness of adaptive tennis within the Southern tennis community. This tournament allowed our athletes to meet new friends and develop their game.”

People of any age, environment, social, intellectual or physical ability are invited to enjoy playing tennis.
