In Memoriam Karen Newman, Armetha Anthony, Cole Duty

In Memoriam Donation Page

The Tennis Foundation humbly and gratefully accepts donations in memoriam for the hard work and dedication of these tennis community members who gave so much to tennis in the state of Mississippi and beyond.

With the funds raised in each person's name, the Tennis Foundation will partner with the families to announce a unique scholarship in each person's name.

Armetha Anthony (1942-2025) was a trailblazer in Mississippi tennis whose impact was felt on courts across the state and beyond. A nationally ranked competitor, dedicated coach, and lifelong advocate for access to the game, she used tennis to build confidence, discipline, and opportunity for generations of players. Donations may be made to junior tennis programs “In Honor of Armetha Anthony” through the Tennis Foundation of Mississippi

Karen Newman (1958-2026), a lifelong advocate for tennis, volunteered on the local, state, sectional, and national levels. She got involved with the Tri-County Community Tennis Association over two decades ago as a local CTA volunteer, then went on to be the USTA Mississippi President in 2017-2018. Karen then served as the Tennis Foundation of Mississippi President in 2019-2020, before going on to serve as the Vice Chair of the Southern Community Development Committee, the Southern Tennis Patrons Foundation, and the USTA Southern Nominating Committee.

Cole Duty (1996-2026) left behind a legacy that reaches far beyond the tennis court. Tennis was a passion for Cole, and everyone who crossed his path could feel that passion. He played tennis as a junior and continued his playing career at East Central Community College, but it was bringing others into the game that brought him the greatest joy. He taught countless junior players throughout the Louisville area, captained numerous USTA Junior Team Tennis teams and coached the Winston Academy High School tennis team, and recently took on the role of Adult Local League Coordinator for the East Central area of Mississippi.
